Sebastian A. Weiss, Esq., L.L.M. (Taxation) has been practicing law in New York State since 2004. In addition, he is admitted to practice in U.S. Tax Court and authorized to prepare U.S. tax returns and to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service.
A primary focus of Mr. Weiss' practice is advising clients that require ongoing assistance with legal and tax matters, such as clients who do not have in-house legal or tax professionals.
He regularly advises clients on a range of matters, including but not limited to: Corporate and commercial contracts for domestic and international business transactions; Taxation and U.S. federal and state tax return preparation; Tax controversies, including audits and proceedings in U.S. Tax Court; Entity choice and formation; Corporate governance policies and procedures.
Mr. Weiss has represented private and public companies, and both established and start-up businesses, in a variety of industries, including but not limited to:
- Information Technology and Software Development;
- E-Commerce;
- Professional and Financial Services;
- Marketing, Media, and Publishing;
- Food and Beverage Production and Facilities Management;
- Fashion.
For self-employed and other individuals, Mr. Weiss offers tax return preparation services as well as advice relating to financial transactions, consulting and employment agreements, wills and trusts, and real estate closings.
Work Experience and Background:
Mr. Weiss has been in private practice throughout his professional legal career. He worked as an associate at law firms in Manhattan for five years prior to establishing a solo practice in 2010.
During law school, Mr. Weiss clerked for a New York State Supreme Court judge, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) legal department, and the Colgate-Palmolive Corporation trademark department.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Weiss was an award-winning financial news journalist at American City Business Journals. His in-depth reporting on groundbreaking legislation and legal issues, including the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, ultimately led to a career in the law.
